I have always believed that building a successful practice (whatever your personal definition of success) depends upon doing all the little things right.  To paying attention to the small details that influence a patient’s attitude and actions.

When it comes to getting new patients through the door, there are an abundance of runs to be scored by stringing together base hits, but it seems that some of us are only content with swinging for the fences.  Don’t misunderstand me…I like to think big and go for the gusto as much as anyone.  I just don’t want to see you stand at the plate and let hittable balls go by while you are waiting for that one perfect pitch.

Consider that baseball’s all-time home run leader, Barry Bonds averaged 1 homer per approximately every 13 at bats.  In order for him to hit his next home run he had to swing away an average of 13 times.  Sometimes he struck out.  But along the way he got plenty of walks, singles, and extra-base hits.  And as long as he kept taking his cuts, the next home run was inevitable.

The point is, KEEP SWINGING!

Not every promotion you do is going to bring a bonanza of new patients, so don’t get into the habit of just relying on large holiday events and celebrations to garner new practice members.

There are plenty of “base hits” that you can utilize on a daily basis to help build your practice.  Be sure that you are asking for referrals, handing out exam certificates, giving out referral packets, consistently supplying patients with educational material, writing Thank You notes and personal letters, etc., etc.   If you happen to strike out, just dust yourself off and step back into the batter’s box.

Be sure to keep health passes or exam certificates withing arm’s reach–at your front desk, in your adjusting rooms, the exam room, x-ray room, your report office…anywhere that you can immediately produce them when the Golden Opportunity arises.

So don’t sit back and wait for the perfect pitch to come to you! There are plenty of hits to be had if you just keep swinging.
